BRRR…..the snow may have ended but it is still cold! Is your heat cranking today? Did you know that with some simple, inexpensive Winter Weatherization tips you can be warm and cozy inside your house all winter long? That’s right, there are some easy fixes that you can do today to help keep your house warm and toasty and save money to.
Winter Weatherization Tips
Tip #1– Typically your windows and your doors are the most common causes of drafts in your house so add some caulk around your window and door frames to keep air out. New leaks can appear at any time because they are caused by wood windows getting damp and warping slightly, so make sure to check all windows periodically.
Tip #2– Add weather stripping around your windows and doors. Weather stripping is easy to use since it comes in long thin strips that you cut with scissors to the appropriate length and then you just peel the back sticker off and place the stripping where needed.
Tip #3– Outlet Plate Insulation Kits on all of your exterior walls to keep out drafts. These insulated kits help keep your heat from escaping out of your room and into the crevices in your walls.
Tip #4– Plug your outlets with inexpensive baby safety plugs to cut down on heat leakage in your home. If you can hold your hand in front of an outlet and feel a draft that means that you have air leakage. Add some safety plugs to prevent air loss. (Note: these also work great in the summer to keep warm air out of your house!)
