My kids are getting older and one of my goals for 2015 is to teach them the importance of saving money and proper money skills. My kids will be getting a small allowance this year and they often get money for their birthday’s and holidays and I want to use these opportunities to teach them skills to effectively manage their money when they get older.
One of the easy ways I plan on doing this is by teaching them to save their loose change. Earlier this year I purchased a large container of pretzels and once the pretzels were gone I cleaned out the plastic container that they were in. I then cut a hole in the lid and taped the lid shut with duct tape.
I then put it into a visible area of our home and throughout the year I will be adding my own loose change as well as encouraging my kids to add any loose change they find around the house.
At the end of the year we will take all of our loose change to a coin counting station and use the money for something fun! How much money do you think you can save during the course of a year when it is only loose change?
