Apple Pie Recipe from Scratch

10/09/14 | Dessert Recipes, Desserts, Recipes, Thanksgiving, Uncategorized

It finally feels like Fall here and that means that I am back on my baking kicks!  I love to bake when it is cold out and with apples being in season right now that means it is the perfect time to bake an Apple Pie!  I love Apple Pie but truthfully I’m not a big fan or pie crust so I love this Apple Pie Recipe from Scratch because it isn’t a traditional pie crust. Plus, it is easy to make because you don’t have to roll it out.

My girls helped me in the kitchen and it was great to all work together to make this pie, they were so excited to show their Daddy what they made when it was time to eat.

This Apple Pie Recipe from Scratch tastes great and is easy to make because you don't roll the crust. It's a perfect dessert for any occasion!
Ingredients
  • For Crust:
  • 1½ cups flour
  • ½ cup oil
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1½ tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • For Filling:
  • 8 cups thinly sliced apples ( I used Macintosh)
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup all purpose flour
  • ¾ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • dash of salt
  • 2 tbsp firm butter
  • For topping:
  • ½ cup flour
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup butter
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. To Make Crust:
  3. In a large bowl mix together the flour, oil, milk, sugar and salt. Pat mixture into a 9 in pie plate, spreading evenly over the bottom and up the sides of the pan. (Note: I had my girls do this by using the bottom of metal measuring cups to flatten and spread.)
  4. To make filling:
  5. Mix ½ cup sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt and flour. Add to apples and mix well. Spoon this mixture over the crust and cut firm butter into tiny pieces are spread over the apples.
  6. To make topping:
  7. Mix together the flour, butter and sugar and mix until crumbly in texture. Spread over apples.
  8. Cook at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
  9. Enjoy!

I’ve never made an apple pie from scratch. I’ve always been afraid of making the pie crust. After reading your recipe I just might try it.

I love watching my teen play golf for his high sch I love watching my teen play golf for his high school team. It truly is where he is comfortable, but a busy day of school AND a winning golf match means one thing—a HUNGRY TEEN! And a hungry teen means you better have a quick snack on hand! When you need something filling and QUICK, nothing is better that a glass of ice-cold milk and a bowl of cereal!

As parents, we are always looking for ways to FUEL THEIR DRIVE with @lehighvalleydairy.

In this back-to-school promotion, Lehigh Valley will award 18 grants ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 to high schools in the communities it serves, including Philadelphia, Scranton, Baltimore and Washington, D.C. Dollars can be used to update a sports field, revamp the school gym, purchase much-needed athletic equipment, or whatever the greatest need is!

You can help your local Scranton area High School win just by:

- Buy Lehigh Valley Milk at your local retailer (Available at retailers like Target and Giant)
- Snap a photo of the receipt - Upload your receipt here: https://fueltheirdrive.com/Lehigh
- And vote for your favorite high school!
- Remember to upload and vote as often as you buy milk - each vote is a chance for the school to win!
