My kids are getting older and one of my goals for 2015 is to teach them the importance of saving money and proper money skills. My kids will be getting a small allowance this year and they often get money for their birthday’s and holidays and I want to use these opportunities to teach them skills to effectively manage their money when they get older.
One of the easy ways I plan on doing this is by teaching them to save their loose change. Earlier this year I purchased a large container of pretzels and once the pretzels were gone I cleaned out the plastic container that they were in. I then cut a hole in the lid and taped the lid shut with duct tape.
I then put it into a visible area of our home and throughout the year I will be adding my own loose change as well as encouraging my kids to add any loose change they find around the house.
At the end of the year we will take all of our loose change to a coin counting station and use the money for something fun! How much money do you think you can save during the course of a year when it is only loose change?

This is a great idea – being able to visually see the saved money add up really helps, I think! I’d love it if you’d share this at Reviews, Chews & How-Tos this week for our first Awesome Life Friday Link Up.

This is a good idea…we have been doing this for quite a few years and I continue to be amazed at how much can come from bits of loose change. 🙂

I worked a banks in high school and in college and it was always surprising to me the amount of money people brought in just in spare change! It’s such a nice little bonus! We keep jars on our dresser for our spare change too. Props to you for teaching your kiddos about spending and saving money! Thanks for linking up today at the SHINE Blog Hop! 🙂

My kids love saving money. They are still pretty little, so we are trying to get them to see the connection between working, earning money, and then being able to spend it on something they want. They typically bypass the “what they want” and either want to give it during Sunday School, or save it for some unknown reason.

Hi! Stopping by from the Make a Difference Mondays Linkup. Great idea, I think the visual reminder of the jar would be a great way to encourage savings!
