The Land of Mu Birds~Book Reviews

I was recently given the opportunity to read and review NEPA author and illustrator Angela DeMuro’s books, Rosie  the Rainbow Mu,  Good Night My Little Mu and I Already Knew I Loved You and found all three of them to be colorful and delightful books geared towards kids.  The messages in this books are simple but powerful and the colorful and simple drawings really appealed to my kids.  They especially liked the MU coloring fun pages that were included at the end of each book, so that they could color their very own MU birds.

Rosie the Rainbow MU

In this book we meet Rosie the MU.  Rosie is unique in that she has many beautiful and colorful feathers which set her apart from the other birds who often make fun of her.  Rosie does her best to fit in, even going as far as shaving off her beautiful feathers, until one day her friend Milo tells her that her

“your feathers are so beautiful because they make you YOU and nobody else can ever be that too!”

Rosie then learns that it is okay to be yourself and to be unique, because its not what is on the outside that matters, but what is on the inside that truly makes you, YOU!

Good Night My Little Mu

In this book we meet up with Milo again and he is having a great day full of imaginative play until the moon comes out and its time to get ready for bed. This is a really sweet book that walks us through the  familiar bedtime routine of bathing, brushing and bedtime stories between Milo and his Daddy MU.

I Already Knew I Loved You

Finally, the last book I received was I Already Knew I Loved You and this one was my favorite.  Because I am currently expecting my 5th child babies are a hot topic in my house right now and this book talks about the hopes and dreams and the love a mother has for their child before they are already born.

All three of these books are really sweet and my children really enjoyed them and I bet your children would as well.  For additional information about the author/illustrator Angela DeMuro or information about where to buy these books please visit her website at www.angelademuro.com.

Note: Mrs. DeMuro will be at the Barnes and Noble Arena Hub in Wilkes Barre on November 12th from 11-1 p.m where she will do a book reading and signing.  Make sure to stop by and support this local artist.

Book Nook: Hannah and the Talking Tree

Today is Read Across America Day, have you read to your child today?

I was recently given the opportunity to review the children’s book Hannah and the Talking Tree by Elke Weiss and read it to my children today.  This sweet book is about a little girl named Hannah, who has large ears and can hear things that most people are unable to hear, like the trees talking, ants marching and the grass growing.  As a result, Hannah can hear the last remaining tree’s sad story about how his friends were cut down and the animals no longer come to play near him.  When the big machine comes to cut down the tree Hannah decides to go to the town and tell everyone the sad story of the tree.

This book is a great introduction to so many topics, such as embracing your differences, learning to stand up for what you believe and learning to look around and appreciate the environment around you.

It is beautifully written and beautifully illustrated and is sure to enchanted the children in your home.

Note: I was not paid for this review and my opinions are my own.  I was however given a copy to review.

BOOK NOOK: Do you have Cabin Fever? Join your local library’s winter reading program!

Last week I wrote about how one of my resolutions for the New Year was to read more books for myself.  Not kids books, not books I’m reading out loud to the kids, but books for me.  I use to be a big reader and a fast reader but my reading has too often been reduced to snippets of magazines or the first few chapters of the latest book because I never get around to finishing them!  In talking to some of you, I realized that I’m not alone.
I’m determined to change this about myself and make more time for me to read.    And our local library system may just have the incentive for us to get started!  The Cabin Fever Book Club runs through the month of February at your local library. Registration begins today,  January 24th,  and if you read three books you get a prize!  Additionally, for every book you read you get to enter your name into a raffle to win a gift basket! Complete a quick review of the book you just read and you just may see your comments in the Scranton Times!
Visit any of your local libraries to sign up!  Need more information?  Visit www.lclshome.org or call your local library. Have fun reading!

BOOK NOOK: What books are you reading?

One of my resolutions for the New Year was to read more books for myself.  I have always been an avid reader but with four children my reading tends to be children’s books or magazines that I can peruse quickly!  I’m determined to change that!  I want to read AT LEAST two books per month that are just for me… so here are my first two choices.

I’ll let you know what I think of them once I’m finished.  Have you read either of these books?  What are you reading?  I would love for you to leave a comment and let me know what you are reading.  I envision this as a place where we can share what we are reading and talk about what we liked and didn’t like, kinda like a book club but we don’t all have to be reading the same book at the same time!
